Twin Falls, Idaho

We stopped in Twin Falls, Idaho on our way home from Washington. It was surprising to find such an amazing sight only fifteen minutes from the interstate. The Perrine Bridge over the Snake River Canyon is world famous for being the only man-made structure people can BASE jump year around without a permit. It also recently appeared in a documentary entitled Most Dangerous Places.

This is the view from the other side of the bridge.

This is a group of BASE jumpers walking out to the middle of the bridge.

They are almost there, barely visible near the railing.

The first guy just climbed over the railing.

Here he is after his parachute deployed. They don't even have to pull the parachute. Rather, they hold it and let go almost immediately after jumping.

This is the second jumper.

I actually got a shot of him mid-jump, just before his parachute opens.

The boys loved wading in this nice swimming pond near the park where we had a picnic lunch. We only spent a few minutes here since they weren't in swimming trunks and they started throwing the sand. Mike was having a great time trying to keep them clean!

We also visited Shoshone Falls. These falls were amazing and quite impressive from this viewpoint. However, I have such a fear of heights, I could not stand too close to the railing and I made sure Dylan and Austin stayed back too.

Luckily, Dylan seemed to appreciate the magnitude of the height and chose to kneel or sit a little back from the railing.

Austin was fairly squirmy so this picture was the only one we could take before Mike took him back to the parking lot.

This picture shows where the main lookout is positioned. It is pretty much a straight drop beneath the railing, which explains my nervousness.
